I love experimenting with different recipes from all over the world, going to a nice local restaurant, visiting museums, seeing musicals, and enjoying my Saturday night movies!
"I am Global Week"! This is a weeklong celebration of the global culture and the diverse community at Brandeis. The highlights of the week are: first, "International Candy Tasting" where you can taste sweets from all over the world and get sugar boosted before finals; second, "Global Bazzar," where all the cultural clubs and language departments are going to table and share artifacts, food, and performances from their culture and it's like a mini world tour just within our campus.
Language in American Life with Professor Janet McIntosh is one of my favorite classes at Brandeis. It explores the intersection between language and many aspects of American society like class, race, gender, etc. We explored the implications of verbal and non-verbal information in a conversation, racio-linguistics, and looked into different accents. Professor McIntosh is a fabulous lecturer who always asks inspiring questions. Like many other anthropology classes at Brandeis, I was able to easily connect the theoretical knowledge to real-life experiences. For instance, one of my projects in the class allows me to look into the use of emojis in online conversations, and it is absolutely an enjoyable process to discover all the hidden metamessage behind a simple smiley face.
I like the size of the school. Professors are very accessible within and outside of the classroom, and it's so easy to get to know many different people. Also, culture is a big part of my identity and Brandeis allows me to explore cross-cultural communication and celebrate the diverse cultures present on campus.
