My favorite Brandeis tradition is Light the Night during Orientation. The first-year class gathers the night after move-in by the Lights of Reason art installation, and come up with words that represent what they're hoping to get from their Brandeis experience. They write these words on electric tea lights, and the whole class turns their candles on together. It really facilitates a sense of community in a beautiful way.
I'm a big fan of the WBRS studio. It's cozy, there's always music playing, and it's usually not too busy, so I can work in there.
I loved how Brandeis balances the things that matter to me. The school is small and liberal arts-focused, but with the opportunities that being an R1 school supplies. The culture focuses on learning for learning's sake, but there is still a world-class career center. The people are incredibly hardworking and dedicated, but it has never felt competitive. Brandeis is the perfect mix of the things I wanted in a school.
My favorite Brandeis class is Oceanography with Sally Warner. You get to learn so much about the ocean through experiments, demos, and engaging lectures. You cover every topic from the physics of the ocean to the importance of whales. I can't recommend it highly enough!
