Tour Guide at Brandeis University
Class of 2023
Hometown: Shrewsbury, MA
Secondary Major: Applied Mathematics
My most memorable Brandeis experience is SASA, the annual event that Brandeis South Asian Student Association puts on. There are student performances, like singing and dancing, along with a really delicious dinner afterward! This is one of my favorite memories because I got to dance with my friends and everyone gets to watch their classmates and friends on stage. Also, each class puts on a class dance, so it was a really fun way to meet people at the beginning of the fall semester!
My favorite class has been an economics class called "The Economics of Race and Gender". This was an interesting elective for my Economics major as it related conceptual concepts in economics with topics like fertility, marriage, and lifestyles. This class also went into detail on explaining why the wage gap exists and ways that we can decrease it. The reason that this class resonated with me was that it connected different topics together through economics that related to the "real world".
I chose Brandeis for the positive community environment it has. My older sister graduated from Brandeis and I did not think that I would want to follow in her footsteps, but when it was my time to happy to college, my parents urged me to apply to Brandeis. I did not think that I would want to go here, but on Accepted Student's Day, I realized that Brandeis was the only college that I could see a future at. With the people in the community and the academic opportunities, I know that I made the right decision coming to Brandeis.
My favorite place on campus is the Mandel Rooftop Garden. The Mandel Center for Humanities is one of my go-to places to study because there is a ton of sunlight during the day and it has this open study area. But the rooftop garden in particular is one of my favorite places to sit when it is warm outside. It is usually a quiet, empty area that is surrounded by plants. When I am feeling a little stressed, this place calms me down.
