Islamic Law with Professor Mariam Sheibani! This was the first seminar class I have taken, it allowed me to break out of my comfort zone and engage in discussions more. The content and readings for the class were amazing! My favorite was reading a debate from the Medieval Near East about the permissibility of coffee. Professor Sheibani is the perfect person to teach this course, she has a lot of knowledge and expertise in Islamic law, sparked meaningful discussions, allowed everyone to share their opinions comfortably, and speaks very eloquently. This was a small course which made it feel very tight-knit and allowed us to build a closer relationship with each other and Professor Sheibani. I would recommend everyone to take a course with her during their time at Brandeis!
My favorite place in Waltham is Peshawri Kebabs, they serve delicious Pakistani food with such lovely hospitality. The food and environment create a home-like feeling for anyone who visits!
Meeting my friends at orientation and Ramadan with Brandeis MSA!
There's a healthy balance between academics and social life. There are so many interesting courses students can take in any department either for major/minor requirements or just for fun! When I toured Brandeis, I knew I would find a supportive and welcoming community at Brandeis by joining student organizations I identify with or interest me as there was something for everyone.
