Trying new food spots! My friends and I love to eat and try new foods, whether in Waltham or Boston, we're surrounded by different cuisines and restaurants that are all worth a try. We also love to walk around to reach places and explore stores that interest us along the way and try to collect little trinkets from wherever we go.
Islamic Law with Professor Mariam Sheibani! This was the first seminar class I have taken, it allowed me to break out of my comfort zone and engage in discussions more. The content and readings for the class were amazing! My favorite was reading a debate from the Medieval Near East about the permissibility of coffee. Professor Sheibani is the perfect person to teach this course, she has a lot of knowledge and expertise in Islamic law, sparked meaningful discussions, allowed everyone to share their opinions comfortably, and speaks very eloquently. This was a small course which made it feel very tight-knit and allowed us to build a closer relationship with each other and Professor Sheibani. I would recommend everyone to take a course with her during their time at Brandeis!
Light the Night! This is a Brandeis tradition that occurs during orientation at the "Light of Reason" installation outside of the Rose Art Museum. Students are given lights on which they write what they hope to accomplish or a dream during their time at Brandeis. Afterward, students raise their lights and switch them on at the same time as the Light of Reason turns on. This is a very meaningful tradition because I have my light on my desk every year and it's something I can look at and feel encouraged to make the most out of my time at Brandeis.
Meeting my friends at orientation and Ramadan with Brandeis MSA!
